A class of 8 year olds in Wuhan are told that they will elect class monitors for the first time. Three candidates were selected by the teacher and the kids let it rip. Meanness, conniving, back and double-dealing, humiliation...all the usual techniques of "democracy" come down on these kids' heads...to their shock and horror.
Since these kids were too young to be fully empathetic their behavior was predictable and understandable. But the raw ugliness they displayed still took me aback.
The kid who won was an aggressive bully. Twas ever thus.
